Sanchos Taqueria. Excellent Halal Mexican food at Paragon.

I do not know if Mexico will ever pay for the wall that Trump wants to build. What I do know is that Mexico gave us two of the best dips/ sauces known to mankind. Guacamole and salsa. There is just something so simplistic about Mexican cuisine. Every time I have great Mexican food, I just think to myself, “why did no one else think of that?”

Good thing there is no wall around Mexico. Literally and figuratively. Mexican cuisine is global and it should be. Chips with no guacamole and salsa is just plain sad. Oh and not to mention, it makes something sinful less so but way more delicious.

So how did I stumble upon Sanchos Taqueria?

One fine day… Just before the Chinese New Year break. My colleagues and I decided to go out for lunch. Well, late lunch. We realised that about half of the offices in our building were taking half of the day off as it was the day before Chinese New Year Eve.

Just to be clear, I had no idea we were going for Mexican Food. I think we were at Paragon for something else, stumbled upon this place, ended up having lunch here.

Oh and this is a halal establishment. So an added bonus. As we have Muslim colleagues, we always lookout for whether a food establishment is halal or not.

Sanchos Taqueria is located at B1. The moment we came up from the car park, we saw this place and decided to try this out.

It was relatively crowded, considering that it was just after lunch. We were there at around 2pm.

In typical Singaporean style, our thinking was that if there is a crowd, it must be good.

Sopas means soup I assume?

It was not all Mexican fare. There is pasta and grilled salmon. I do not think that is Mexican food?

I had the zucchini and bell peppers tostadas.

This was the Bang Bang Prawn Tacos

The Pulled Beef Torta

If you want to know what is good Mexican food, in my opinion, there should be this distinct tang to it. As though the onions and tomatoes are freshly diced. The sauces, especially if it’s salsa, should have the distinct crunch. Interestingly enough, Sanchos Taqueria, though not truly Mexican, judging from the variety on their menu, does make decent Mexican sauces.

Would I come back here again? Well, yes!

Oh and nice effort on the cactus murals on the walls… it felt decently Mexican in sunny Singapore.

Oh and just to reiterate, this is a halal establishment. So there are no dishes with pork. That was never the reason to have Mexican food anyway. It was always about the freshness of their dips and sauces.

Yours sincerely,

Daryl
