My 5D4N Royal Caribbean cruise on board the Spectrum of the Seas (Day 3)

Day 3 was Phuket and Teppanyaki day!

If there is one speciality restaurant that you have to try, it would be Teppanyaki. The Teppanyaki is special in the sense that even though we bought the unlimited dining package, we could only visit Teppanyaki once during our time on board.

For starters, do people really hang their clothes here?

There is no port at Phuket that is large enough to allow the cruise ship to dock. Therefore, the cruise ship will stop in the middle of the waters with a ferry bringing passengers onto shore.

This was how far, or near, we were from shore.

Level 2 is where passengers board the ferry services. The ferry services go back and forth in 30-minute intervals.

For today, I had some work calls to attend to. Therefore my family disembarked earlier while I took the call. Hot tip, grab food from the buffet before it closes if you are staying on board because there is no lunch served on board.

When I was done with my work, I headed off to look for my family!

Tuk tuk… the only way to ride…

Patong Beach was where we were dropped off at. My family wanted to visit an elephant farm.

I am not certain whether these farms adhere to ethical practices, which is why I am often sceptical to patronise such farms. However, I wanted my daughter to come up close with elephants. She should not be afraid of animals. Elephants are, in general, relatively harmless and peaceful animals.

I have been to Thailand so many times but I have never been to any farm.

Today looked like a good day to visit an elephant farm. My wife was less thrilled about being so high up.

After the trip to the farm, we went to Central Patong. If you are familiar with CentralWorld in Bangkok, this is a mall run by the same group in Patong Beach, Phuket.

It is much less crowded though.

If you are there, you have to patronise After You. They serve the best desserts in the world. That is a high claim to make. I stand by my claim.

The time to return to the ship was 730pm. Central Patong was a short 15-minute walk from Patong Beach. We decided to walk back to the ferry terminal.

The walk is quite pleasant. Phuket has a very laid-back vibe.

Ok, this is too laid back for my liking…

    This is the boarding point.

We returned to the cruise ship at around 6 pm. At this point in time, there were people at the beach engaging in water sports. Sadly we had to return.

That was how far or close we were to the Spectrum of the Seas.

This was pre-dinner. Unlimited dining. Hence we ordered some sushi items.

Obviously, as a vegetarian, this was mine.

Teppanyaki is more for the entertainment than the quality of the food.

If you are a vegetarian like myself, every chef has something for you. Do not worry.

When we were younger, we were told not to play with our food. Now we pay to see people play with food.

    How times have changed…

And that wraps up my 3rd day!

    Yours sincerely,

    Daryl

Oh yes, I had loads of juicy mangoes for supper…

You can bring these back to your stateroom. By can I do not mean are allowed. I am not sure whether we are allowed but I could and no one said anything!
